Overview
Situated in the north eastern part of India, it is a traveler’s delight as Sikkim is one of the prettiest destination of India. With the backdrop of Kanchenjunga, this tiny Himalayan state offers a lot in terms of scenic beauty. The state offers scenic mountains and valleys covered with Alpine forest, terraced fields and rhododendron forests with riot of colors. This tour will take you through the views of majestic Kanchenjunga, beautifully built monasteries and lush green valleys.
Day 1 : Arrive in New Delhi
Arrive at the New Delhi International Airport. Our representative will be waiting outside the customs enclosure to assist you to the hotel where you will stay overnight.
Day 2 : In New Delhi
New Delhi is the capital city of India. Delhi has a colorful history and since the Mughal period (17th century). Emperor Shah Jahan built Shahjahanabad which today is known as Old Delhi. The day will start with a tour of the Old Delhi. Drive past the Red Fort built by Emperor Shahajahan in 1638. Next admire the great domes of Jama Masjid, the largest mosque in India and Rajghat, Mahatma Gandhi’s memorial. Later take a rickshaw ride through Chandni Chowk, the oldest market in Delhi and enjoy the Delhi street food. In the afternoon explore New Delhi, starting with Humayun’s tomb, the mausoleum of Emperor Humayun with typical Mughal architecture. Another place of interest is the Qutub Minar, the tallest brick minaret in the world built in 1206 by Qutab-Ud- Din-Aibak. Later drive past the secretarial offices, the Parliament house and India Gate the war memorial. Next visit the Connaught Place in central Delhi, a sprawling market place remarkable for its architecture and historical significance. Enjoy the overnight stay at the hotel.
Day 3 : Bagdogra - Darjeeling
In the morning after breakfast get ready to get transferred to the domestic airport to catch a flight to Bagdogra. Our representative will be waiting to receive you and escort you at the Bagdogra airport from where you will continue by road to Darjeeling. Upon reaching Darjeeling you will check into the hotel and relax or take a walk to the bazaar. Prepare to stay overnight at the hotel.
Day 4 : In Darjeeling
The breathtaking beauty of Darjeeling is contributed by its spectacular scenery which includes the majestic peaks of Kanchenjunga mountain range bathed in the orange and golden lights of the rising sun. There is profusion of color which is the result of flaming red rhododendrons, white magnolias, emerald green tree bushes covering the hillside, sparkling silver of the Silver Fir, all under the blue sky washed with white clouds here and there. Visit the Ghoom Monastery popularly known as Yiga Choeling Monastery located at 8000 feet, situated at Ghoom, 8Km from Darjeeling. This monastery is famous for 15 feet high statue of Maitreya Buddha. This was built in 1850 by famous Mongolian monk Sokpo Sherab Gyatso. Another famous spot in this picturesque destination is the Lebong valley at the elevation of 1,809 meters and 8Km from Darjeeling. There is a race course in this valley which is the highest as well as the smallest race track in the world, the complete lap measuring 480 yards. Also visit the Mountaineering Institute of India.Come back to the hotel and stay the night.
Day 5 : Darjeeling - Pemayangtse
Have your breakfast and drive to Pemayangtse Monastery. This monastery was renovated in 18th century by Chogyal Chakdor Nangyal. It is situated at the height of 2,085 meters. This monastery gives a fantastic view of the Kanchenjunga for you to appreciate, return back to the hotel after the visit and relax in the evening. Spend the night in the hotel.
Day 6 : Pemayangtse - Gangtok
After breakfast proceed to Gangtok by road. Reach Gangtok by late afternoon and check into the hotel. Relax in the hotel for the rest of the day. Stay overnight in the hotel.
Day 7 : In Gangtok
Gangtok is the capital city of Sikkim and is situated at the elevation of 1,650 meter. In the morning set out to explore the Rumtek Monastery, 24Km away from Gangtok. It is situated on a hill facing the city. This monastery is lavishly built and is the largest monastery in Sikkim. It contains many sacred objects. The most magnificent of these is a golden stupa built to hold the relics of His Holiness, the sixteenth Karmapa. Afternoon is dedicated to the visit of the Namgyal Institute of Tibetology. This museum was inaugurated by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru in 1958. The architecture of the museum is in Tibetan style. It has some rare and valuable Buddhist manuscripts and books, Tibetan Thangakas, statutes etc. Come back to the hotel and relax in the evening, stay overnight in the hotel.
Day 8 : Gangtok - Bagdogra
After breakfast start for the return journey to Bagdogra to get to the airport for connecting flight to Delhi. You will be received at the airport by our representative and taken to the airport hotel. Here you can relax in the lobby to wait for your flight back home from International Airport.
Day 9 : Leave New Delhi
Take flight for homeward journey.
