Day 1
Start the journey by boarding the train from New Delhi

The journey of a lifetime begins at the Delhi Safdarjung Railway station where the guests are accorded a warm, traditional welcome before the Royal Rajasthan on Wheels pulls out into the night for a week-long luxurious journey through fascinating Rajasthan.

Day 2
Jaipur the Pink City

The first stop is Jaipur, one of the most well planned cities of the world of its time. This capital city of Rajasthan, popularly known as the Pink City, was founded by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, in 1727 A.D. To explore the city, an air-conditioned coach takes you to Hawa Mahal or the Palace of Winds built in 1799 by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh, so named because it was essentially a high screen wall built so the women of the royal household could observe street festivities while being unseen from the outside. This is followed by a visit to Amber Fort where elephant ride is available to climb up the hill. Built in 1592 by Raja Man Singh, this is one of the most famous forts of Rajasthan and was the capital before Jaipur. Lunch will be at one of the five star hotels followed by a visit to City Palace Museum and Observatory. Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II shifted from Amer to Jaipur due to water problems and an increase in population in 1727. The city palace was designed by the chief architect Vidyadhar Bhattacharya between 1729 and 1732.

Day 3
Desserts of Jaiselmer

In the heart of the Thar desert lies the fort and town of Jaisalmer, which was founded by Maharaja Rawal Jaisal in 1156 A.D. after shifting his capital from Ludhrva to a safer place. Jaisalmer Fort is one of the largest fortifications in the world, it is an imposing sight, towering magnificently over the city. Discover the painstakingly latticed havelis or mansions with their grand facades. The Nathmalji-ki-haveli, Patwon-ki-haveli and Salim Singh-ki-haveli are fine examples of the stone carver's skill. Shop for fine pattu shawls, mirror work and embroidered articles , wooden boxes , trinkets , silver jewellery and curios. After lunch on board, go for an exciting camel ride on the sand dunes, before sipping a refreshing cup of tea. Enjoy the dinner and the cultural programme at a Five Star hotel.

Day 4
Sun City Jodhpur

Next morning the Royal Rajasthan on Wheels is in Jodhpur, a city ringed by a high stone wall with seven gates and several bastions. This second largest city of Rajasthan, founded by Rao Jodha in 1459 a.d. is known for its rock-solid Mehrangarh Fort. The grand palaces within -Moti Mahal, Sheesh Mahal, Phool Mahal, Sileh Khana and Daulat Khana are impressive examples of architectural excellence. Near the fort complex lies Jaswant Thada, and a group of royal cenotaphs made of white marble. After lunch at a Palace hotel, return to the Royal Rajasthan on Wheels. While in Jodhpur shop for exquisite handicraft articles including the famous breeches, embroidered shoes, metal curios, silverware, paintings and tie and dye fabrics.

Day 5
Wilderness of Sawai Madhopur and the Magnificient Chittorgarh Fort

One can almost sense a life of the wilderness, as the Royal Rajasthan on Wheels arrives in Sawai Madhopur, a city named after its founder Maharaja Sawai Madho Singh I. After breakfast a visit is arranged to the Ranthambore National Park which is considered as one of the famous and former hunting grounds of the Maharajas of Jaipur.  This wildlife sanctuary is the country’s best for observing and photographing the activities of the tiger. The park covers an area of 392 sq. kms and is home to more than 300 species of birds. Sawai Madhopur is also known for its exclusive toys, ethnic ornaments and costumes. Return to the train and enjoy the lunch as the colourful countryside passes by as you proceed to Chittorgarh.

Chittorgarh Fort is considered as the largest fort of India, which about 112 kms from the city of Udaipur in Rajasthan. This fort was built by various Maurya rulers in the 7th century. Standing on an elevated hill of 180m, the impregnable fort has witnessed three battles and is truly embodiment of chivalry and pride of the Rajputs.

Day 6
City of Lakes Udaipur

Udaipur was the capital of the Rajput kingdom of Mewar, ruled by the Sisodia clan with jhala's loyalty. The founder of Udaipur was Rana Udai Singh, father of Maharana Pratap in 1559 a.d. Udaipur has a romance of setting unmatched in Rajasthan and arguably in all India. Kumbhalgarh fort in Udaipur is the second most important citadel after Chittorgarh in the Mewar region. Cradled in the Aravali Ranges the fort was built in the 15th century by Rana Kumbha. Because of its inaccessibility and hostile topography the fort had remained un-conquered. Lunch at Five Star Hotel, followed by a visit to the City Palace. It was built over a period of nearly 400 years being contributed by several kings of the dynasty, starting by the Maharana Udai Singh as the capital of the Sisodia Rajput clan in 1559, after he moved from Chittor. City Palace boasts of the wonderful blend of Medieval, European and Chinese Architecture. The Palace has various towers, domes and arches, which add to the flavour of heritage site. Towering on the banks of Pichola Lake, City Palace is truly a feast to the eyes.

Day 7
Day 7 - Ghana National Park and Agra the City of the Taj Mahal


In the morning, the Royal Rajasthan on Wheels arrives in Bharatpur, the capital of Maharaja Suraj Mal . After breakfast pay a visit to the world famous bird sanctuary, Keoladeo Ghana National Park, the nesting place for thousands of Egrets, Siberian Cranes, migratory Water Fowl and other species of birds.

Upon arrival visit the Agra Fort also known as the “Lal –Qila”, “Fort Rouge” or “Qila-i-Akbari”, is the highlight of the city of Agra, then capital of the Mughal Sultanate. The present-day structure was built by the Mughals, and has stood there since at least the 11th century. After lunch arrive at Taj Mahal, one of the Seven Wonders of the World. A pristine monument of undying love. It was built by Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his beloved queen Mumtaz Mahal and took 22 years (1631 -1653).

Back to Delhi

Arrive at Delhi Safdarjung Railway station. Breakfast on board and let the pleasant memories of the past week linger on your mind for a long, long time as you disembark.
