Jodhpur today is the second largest city of Rajasthan, with a population of 1.5 million. In many ways, it has not changed all that much from the old fortified town that was built under the protective cover of the brooding Mehrangarh Fort. The 15th Century town walls are still there, punctuated by massive gates; and the old quarter of Jodhpur is a fascinating place, with its narrow jumble of lanes, its havelis and its fine medieval water tanks.
