Overview

The horse safari that you are going to embark on takes you through the sandy desert of Rajasthan. The Thar Desert of Rajasthan is an arid area with very little vegetation. The miles and miles of undulating sandy terrain is a fantastic sight that you will experience in this tour. The tour will take you through small villages and rural countryside, ancient ruins and beautiful temples. Experience the interiors of Rajasthan in a regal manner on a horse back. Only thing that you have to make sure is that you are a horse lover and have a sense of adventure.

Day 1
Arrive in Delhi

Arrive at the New Delhi International Airport. Our representative will be waiting outside the customs enclosure to assist you to the hotel where you will stay overnight.

Day 2
In Delhi

New Delhi is the capital city of India. Delhi has a colourful history and since the Mughal period (17th century) till the British period (1947) served as the capital city. In 1649 Mughal emperor Shah Jahan built Shahjahanabad which today is known as Old Delhi. The day will start with a tour of the Old Delhi. Visit the Red Fort built by Emperor Shah Jahan in 1638. Next admire the great domes of Jama Masjid, the largest mosque in India and Rajghat, Mahatma Gandhi’s memorial. Later take a rickshaw ride through Chandni Chowk, the oldest market in Delhi and enjoy the Delhi street food. In the afternoon explore New Delhi, starting with Humayun’s tomb, the mausoleum of Emperor Humayun with typical Mughal architecture. Another place of interest is the Qutab Minar, the tallest brick minaret in the world built in 1206 by Qutab-Uddin-Aibak. Later drive past the secretarial offices, the Parliament house and India Gate the war memorial. Next visit the Connaught Place in central Delhi, a sprawling market place remarkable for its architecture and historical significance. Enjoy the overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 3
Delhi- Nawalgarh

After a sumptuous breakfast leave for Nawalgarh by road. Stop for lunch at Mandwa palace, a part of Shekhawati region. Shekhawati is not a town or village but it is a whole region in northern Rajasthan. This region is famous for its painted ‘Havelis’or mansions. The Havelis represent the artistic frame of mind of the architects. These Havelis are fascinating with their various forms of fine art. The brightly painted walls and ceilings represent mythological themes and animals. Some later dated paintings are influenced by British. These painted Havelis are a treat for the eyes in an otherwise barren land.
Reach Nawalgarh by early evening and check into Roop Niwas Palace. In the evening meet at the stables for tea and distribution of the welcome gifts. You are welcome to get yourself acquainted with the horses and choose one for yourself. You can also ride around the palace grounds for this purpose. Later you are invited for a cocktail where you will be briefed about your tour. You will be given the details on the ecology of the region and other important facts that you need to know before taking on the tour. Have dinner and spend the night in the palace.

 

Day 4
In Nawalgarh

Nawalgarh is a district in the Shekhawati region in Rajasthan. It is also famous for its painted Havelis. Thakur Nawal Singh Ji founded Nawalgarh in 1737. This town displays an old world charm with its exquisitely painted Havelis and colourful bazaars. The Roop Niwas Palace is also a Haveli built by Thakur Roop Sigh Ji. Now it has been transformed into a heritage hotel. This town is also home to many wealthy merchants of this region. Take a tour of the city seeing the famous mansions, forts and temples. Come back early in the evening and relax in the hotel. Spend the night in the hotel.

Day 5
Nawalgarh- Churi-Ajitgarh- Nabipura

Post breakfast start your horse safari. In this 23 Km ride, ride over dry, sandy terrain with cactus and other thorny plants for vegetation. Pass through Churi-Ajitgarh, a small village in the Shekhawati region. Here too you will see many painted Havelis famous for their frescoes. Have a picnic lunch and proceed to Nabipura, a small village in Sikar district in Rajasthan. Camps for overnight stay will be set up at Nabipura.

Day 6
Nabipura- Mandwa- Nangli

After breakfast start your horse safari from Nabipura to Mandwa. This ride too will be over sandy, barren track of the desert. Have lunch sitting on a sand dune in Mandwa. In the evening approach Nangli Jatan village which is a small village in Rajasthan. Stay in a camp for overnight. 

Day 7
Nangli- Mahansar

Start your horse safari through the heart of Shekhawati region after breakfast. Move towards Gogameri village in the Hanumangarh district. Stop for lunch at Gogameri on a sand dune. Visit the ‘Goga ji’ temple here. The temple belongs to Shri Goga Ji a warrior known to have supernatural powers. This was built about 900 years ago. The temple is located on a high mound with a statue of Goga Ji on a horse back. Stop at Mahansar and a camp will be set up for the night stay.

Day 8
Mahansar- Dungarsingpura- Lalsinghpura

In the morning after breakfast start your ride from Mahansar to Lalsinghpura. En-route, stop at Dungarsinghpura for lunch. Proceed towards Lalsinghpura a small village in the Churu district in Rajasthan. Stay the night in Lalsinghpura.

Day 9
Lalsinghpura- Churu

After breakfast you will start your last stretch of the horse safari travelling from Lalsinghpura to Churu. Churu is a city in the desert of Rajasthan which is also known as Gateway to the Thar Desert. It is situated near shifting sand dunes of the desert. Churu like other towns in this region has beautifully painted Havelis and frescoes. There are a number of temples and fort here. You will spend the night in Churu.

Day 10
Churu- Jaipur

In the morning you will start for Jaipur from Churu by road. Reach Jaipur in the evening and check into a hotel. Spend the evening relaxing in the hotel and stay overnight in Jaipur.
Jaipur is the capital city of Rajasthan. It is also popularly known as the ‘Pink City’ because of the pink walled buildings of the old city. This is a stunning remnant of the bygone era. It was founded by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh in 1727.

 

Day 11
In Jaipur

Start for Amber Fort after breakfast. Amber Fort is set on the top of a hill which can be reached by taking a lurching elephant ride. This magnificent fort has number of breathtaking palaces, gardens and temples with elaborate mirror work adding to the grandeur. Next visit the City Palace built by Sawai Jai Singh in 1729. It is a grand building with decorated walls, murals, lattice and mirrors. The next visit will be to the astronomical observatory, Jantar Mantar. This was built by Maharaja Jai Singh II in 1727. Visit Hawa Mahal, the palace of winds. This palace is an architectural wonder designed to trap cool wind inside the palace. This is also built with pink stones in 1799. In the evening visit the colourful bazaar of Jaipur.

Day 12
Jaipur- Fatehpur Sikri- Agra

Post breakfast you will start your journey towards Agra by road. En-route you will visit Fatehpur Sikri. This city, 37 Km from Agra is built predominantly with red stones. It was built by Emperor Akbar in memory of Sufi saint Salim Chisti. This magnificent city has 11Km long fortification, interspersed with numerous gates. Reach Agra and check into a hotel. After check in, visit Taj Mahal  one of the ‘seven wonders of the world’. It was built by Emperor Shah Jahan (1632-1652) in memory of his wife Mumtaj Mahal depicting his deep love for her. The perfectly sculptured structure out of white marble never fails to impress the visitors. It is closed on Fridays. Later visit the Agra Fort a massive red stone structure. Fort is known for its massive gates like Delhi Gate, Lahore gate, Elephant gate and Amar Singh gate. Stay overnight at the hotel.

Day 13
Agra- Delhi (210Km/ 131miles)

Have your breakfast and relax in the hotel till it is time to leave for Delhi by road. Otherwise you can visit Taj Mahal during sunrise if you feel like. Start your journey towards Delhi having a short stop at Sikandra, the mausoleum of Emperor Akbar. Arrive at Delhi and check into the airport hotel and relax in the lobby. Later in the evening get transferred to the international terminal to catch the flight for the onward journey.

Day 14
Leave Delhi

Board the flight from Delhi International Airport for homeward journey.
Note: Since this is a riding tour the guests are required to practice riding regularly before joining the safari. They should also forward their height, weight and riding capability.
Horses: There will be two breeds of horses that you will get to ride in this safari. Marwari and Kathiwadi horses. Marwari horses are ancient breed of war horses bred by nobility in the past. They display a remarkable show of pride and dignity. The Kathiwadi horses are from the desert tract of the neighbouring state, Gujarat.
