Located in Himachal Pradesh Spiti is the biggest district and shares the boundary with Tibet which gives this place the unique religion of Tibet – Tibetan Buddhism. Some of the oldest and most famous monasteries like Ki Monastery, Tabo Monastery are located in this region.
Spiti, fondly referred to as ‘Little Tibet’ is situated at an altitude of 12500 feet above sea level and is known for its snow-capped peaks and natural surroundings. In this beautiful region there are very few villages which are clusters of whitewashed homes huddled by green barley fields below monasteries perched on crags. The Spiti river is the constant companion running along a broad valley before turning south at Sumdo into the precipitous gorges of the Hangrang Valley.
