At an altitude of 3,636 meters, Sandakphu is the highest peak located in Darjeeling district in the eastern part of India. The name Sandakphu means ‘Height of the Poison Plant’ because of the poisonous aconite plants that grow near the peak. This beautiful area along the border between India and Nepal in an excellent combination of wild splendour and the mighty snow covered mountains.
Sandakphu is the peak of the Singalila Range, and is the most audacious point of many trekking routes in the Darjeeling-Sikkim region. If there is one reason this trek is must –do it is the pleasure and the honour of viewing the tallest mountains in the world. One can see four of world’s five highest peaks- Everest, Kanchenjunga, Makalu and Lhotse from this place.
